The Local Area

Fochabers Village lies on the A96 halfway between Aberdeen and Inverness – some 50 miles either way. Glasgow and Edinburgh are perhaps 3 hours south by car.

It is generally accepted that this area enjoys a sort of micro climate, experiencing higher than average temperatures and more favourable weather conditions.

This is very much a rural area with the village of Fochabers having the usual mixture of shops, including a few antique shops, hotels and other facilities. The world famous food firm - Baxters – has its main factory in Fochabers, featuring a visitors centre, shop and restaurant – well worth a visit. Visitors from the south may be surprised to find that Fochabers has its own long established cricket club.

The nearest town is Elgin, which is a fine shopping centre, and is only 10 miles away. The coastal towns of Lossiemouth and Buckie are also within easy travelling distance.
Aviemore with its mountain railway, is only an hour away.

There are other nearby attractions, places of interest, and things to do – all described in the relevant local tourist publications. Golf courses are too many to list, but all welcome visitors at modest daily rates. A trout fishery at nearby Rothes provides an interesting angling alternative.

The Whisky Trail will guide you round an abundance of distilleries, many with visitor centres – this is the heart of the Speyside Malt region. The Speyside way is famed as a beautiful walk along the banks of the Spey for much of its length.
